Post Huntley residents want to turn farmland on Route 47 into event venue

HUNTLEY – Two Huntley residents are looking to transform 2.75 acres of farmland on Route 47 into an event venue for weddings, graduations, reunions and more.

Chris and Barb Lincoln bought the property at 8401 Route 47 in October 2016 and renovated the single-family home for their family to live in, according to village documents.

The couple want to renovate existing farm buildings to use as event venues, and eventually plan to renovate a large barn to host larger events. They aim to be open by summer of 2018, village documents show.

The Huntley Village Board will hear an initial concept review at Thursday’s meeting to get opinions before enlisting professionals to prepare formal plans for consideration. The meeting will start at 7 p.m. at the Municipal Complex, 10987 Main St.

The property is currently zoned as a residential estate district and would need to be amended to include “agribusiness” as a special use.

The couple will start with renovating three covered, paved areas for seating and dining, along with grass and landscaped areas to sit. There is room for a tent if desired by the customer. They also mentioned the possibility of hosting beer or wine tastings with local brewers and food trucks, according to village documents.

Food for events would be brought in by a caterer hired by the customer, and if granted a liquor license, the venue would serve alcohol from portable beer carts.

“We would like to maintain the rustic dairy farm feel of this property,” the proposal states. “Everyone who visits the property falls in love with it. We already have requests for parties this fall and next summer.”

As the business grows, the dairy farm would be renovated. The barn needs a new roof, repaired floor boards, replaced windows, new electrical system and new lighting, along with plumbing and restrooms, according to village documents.

Parking for the venue is proposed for open grass areas at the rear of the property and portable restrooms would be brought in for each event.

Chris Lincoln has experience in the construction industry and a degree in finance, and Barb Lincoln has a degree in interior design, working to decorate homes for the past 20 years, according to village documents.

Only one event will be planned a weekend and the couple are looking at charging between $8,000 to $10,000.
